Sharon finds inspiration just about everywhere outdoors: from the shifting patterns of sand on the Oregon coast to the flowers, birds, and other creatures that visit her Portland garden. If something catches her eye, there’s a good chance it will eventually find its way into clay.
Originally from outside New Orleans, Sharon earned a BFA in graphic design with a minor in sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she first fell in love with ceramics. After a career in advertising, she traded deadlines for clay and returned to the art form she had always wanted to pursue. Working primarily in porcelain, Sharon creates wheel-thrown vessels and sculptural pieces filled with texture, movement, and unexpected pops of color. Her carved patterns are often inspired by sand formations and erosion along the coast, while her sculptures celebrate the plants and animals she encounters closer to home. The result is work that reflects what Sharon loves most about the natural world: its endless variety, beauty, and joy.
