It’s near impossible for me to explain my artwork. I like to dwell in an inner world where I can walk in a terrain of spirit and make-believe. For my sculptural pieces, I forage for objects that spark a narrative. I am willing to deconstruct, bang, pour, bind and handle just about anything to develop a character until it talks to me. Rather than explaining my loves, tears, and humor, I hope that my creations spark some primal relationship that is as unique to the observer as it is to me.
My adult professional life was spent in New York City, working in trendy galleries, exhibiting my work, and feeding my inner child by teaching art to children. The art scene there became less and less relevant to me, so I turned to nature. As a monkish retreat, I trained at the New York Botanical Garden to increase my understanding of horticulture and refine my art techniques. I love creating a tender relationship with a plant. I learned there that art can be like slow cooking. I traded my past for the Oregon coast. I am blessed with a small garden, a garage studio that I can make a mess in, an indoor space for drawing and watercolor, and two dogs to walk on the beach. I am surrounded by neighbors that support the arts and community art projects. I am grateful to the talented artists of For Artsake Gallery for including me and sharing their support. The freedom to show my true self is a natural gift. |
